The Shaduf: Egypt’s Water-Lifting Wonder

A shadoof, also known as a shaduf, is a simple yet highly efficient irrigation tool used for lifting water from a water source and transporting it onto land or into another waterway or basin. This ancient technology has been utilized since around 3000 BCE, demonstrating its enduring practicality and effectiveness. The mechanism behind a shadoof is deceptively straightforward. It consists of a long pole, precisely counterbalanced on a pivot point. At one end of the pole, a bucket or container is
