DNA profiles can be developed from a variety of sources including blood stains, semen, tissue, saliva, and hair roots. During DNA analysis, a DNA profile is developed from crime scene samples and known reference samples collected directly from persons of interest.

ABC15 Reporter Ford Hatchett provided an update regarding DNA samples from gloves that investigators found 2 miles from Nancy Guthrie's home in Tucson. He told Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos that due to the DNA not producing any hits in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), authorities will now need to use genetic genealogy to try find a match.
